One of the highlights of my long weekend was a stop at The Spa on Fairways. Situated in Fairways, Virginia, the spa looks like just another house in this peaceful Durban North suburb. Once you walk across the Koi pond bridge and into the reception, you'll realise that this ordinary venue is quite extraordinary.
The reception area has a relaxed beach-like atmosphere. The large aquariums filled with exotic colourful fish enhance the coastal theme. Once you 'chill out' on those comfy leather couches with a cup of coffee, you will never want to leave.
The staff at the spa are welcoming, friendly and happily cater to your every need. They have a very organized system; once you check in at reception, you're given a schedule card with times and details of your treatments. While you wait on the above-mentioned couches, coffee and muffins or fruit juice is served. Your therapist then meets and greets you and shows you around. The deck provides amazing views of the Indian ocean, while en-suite treatment rooms overlook the Beechwood Golf Course.
I chose a half day package, which included a variety of treatments. Before it commences, you are given a spa gown and slippers. I had the pampering full body aromatherapy massage. You can dreamily gaze into the fish bowl underneath your massage bed, which helps to unwind. I didn't care too much for the Indian head massage; I had it as part of my package. The spa is famed for it glorious pedicures, which they live up to. Your feet are given the 5 star treatment as you relax on a large cosy sofa. You're also given a neck and shoulder massage while your soles are soaked in a luxurious jelly.
Good to Know:
The spa has a jacuzzi and swimming pool, so take your swimsuit along.
A light lunch is included with all packages.
There are different types of massages to chose from : Hot stone, Thai Wat Po, Swedish, Reiki and Reflexology. Mud wraps and body exfoliation is also offered.
Each therapy room has it's own private shower.
The spa makes use of Dermalogica products and you can have face-mapping done when you book any facial. They also sell the entire range of Dermalogica.
If you're planning to spend a full day there, I suggest you invite a couple of friends for a leisurely girl's day out.
My relaxing spa day was ultimate bliss; a rejuvenating experience that ended too soon. I will definitely return for the heavenly Fairway pedicure next time I'm at the coast.
