The new 2.0-litre engine developing 105 kW/143 hp - available for the MINI, MINI Clubman, MINI Convertible and MINI Countryman - will drum up even more power yet burn extremely small amounts of fuel. Motor sport enthusiasts will welcome the new John Cooper Works Pack option also on offer for the MINI and MINI Convertible.<br /><br />Furthermore, the customary selection of personalisation options available for drivers to configure their MINI in their own image has taken on even greater proportions. The first ambassador of the exclusive and innovative MINI Yours style will be the MINI Clubman Hampton special edition.<br /><br /><b>MINI Cooper SD: Impressive on the power, frugal at the pumps.</b><br />The new MINI Cooper SD slots into the range above the MINI One D with 66 kW/90 hp and MINI Cooper D developing 82 kW/112 hp as the most powerful diesel MINI. Its 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel unit produces maximum output of 105 kW/143 hp at 4,000 rpm. A stand-out characteristic of the new diesel is its mighty pulling power, which remains on tap even under heavy loads; maximum torque of 305 Newton metres (225 lb-ft) is available between 1,750 and 2,700 rpm. Add this to the excellent balance between output and fuel consumption familiar from the other models in the MINI family plus extraordinary power development for a four-cylinder engine, and the MINI Cooper SD has all the tools the sporty driver could ever need.<br /><br />In its basic construction, the new 2.0-litre diesel fits the same template as the 1.6-litre units fitted in the MINI One D and MINI Cooper D. Its all-aluminium crankcase helps to keep the weight of the engine as low as possible, while the turbocharger with variable intake geometry develops the right level of power at all engine speeds. The engine in the MINI Cooper SD has a model-specific and extremely powerful turbocharger controlled by the engine management system, while common-rail direct injection with solenoid-valve injectors positioned centrally in the cylinder head ensure that the fuel is fed in extremely precisely and efficiently. As early as the 15th century, certain pocket-watches already sounded the hours in passing, whereas quarter-repeating mechanisms striking the hours and quarters on demand appeared in the late 17th century. As time went by, it added other complications, such as a perpetual calendar and a chronograph, as well as a power-reserve indication in 1885. The experience thus acquired enabled it to make the first minute repeater wristwatch in 1892. This masterpiece of miniaturization lastingly inscribed this complication in the brand’s genes, to the extent that in the late 1980s, when there was no more research on these models that had sadly fallen into oblivion, Audemars Piguet became one of the first manufacturers to revive this genre.<br /><br />The new Millenary Minute Repeater is entirely in line with this longstanding tradition, while adopting the latest technological breakthroughs developed by Audemars Piguet, starting with the new AP escapement. As an essential component in the smooth running of a watch, the escapement serves to sequence the linear energy transmitted by the barrel. Drawing inspiration from a mechanism created in the late 18th century by a watchmaker named Robin, Audemars Piguet developed a new escapement combining the high efficiency of a direct-impulse escapement with the reliability of a Swiss lever escapement. The watchmakers in Le Brassus thereby succeeded in reducing the energy losses and in eliminating the need to lubricate the pallet-stones. This groundbreaking technical development in turn enhanced rating accuracy, long-term stability and shock-resistance. <br /><br /><b>A sophisticated device</b><br />Conceived, developed and produced by Audemars Piguet, the new hand-wound Calibre 2910 driving the Millenary Minute Repeater is also distinguished by the atypical construction of the regulating organ. The latter is composed, not of one balance-spring, but of two balance-springs placed top to tail. This flat opposite-facing double balance-spring system boasts numerous advantages: it ensures automatic compensation for potential poising flaws; eliminates the need for the “overcoil” terminal curves of so-called “Breguet-type” balance-springs, which are always very tricky to make; and also does away with the imprecision resulting from the vertical position of the watch without needing to resort to such a sophisticated device as the tourbillon. All these special features serve to ensure finer adjustment of the balance-and-spring assembly oscillating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour.<br /><br />The two movement barrels guarantee an exceptional seven-day power reserve. Also, while many designers have looked to the ’70s for spring 2011, Prada’s color palette was the only thing remotely ’70s-inspired. The collection reminded us of Mexico, Brazil and maybe even Puerto Rico because of its form-fitting dresses with drop-waist ruffles that were simply to die for! We also love the oversized striped sombreros. Channeling the artistry of acclaimed fashion illustrator, Rene Gruau, Galliano found a way to make all of his garments pop on the runway. Each piece mirroring the fashion illustration from which it was inspired. He added shadows by layering tulle and created lines in his garments that were a reflection of an illustrator’s pen. He used colors rich and bold that blended into one another to provide depth and texture. How he envisioned this masterpiece was astounding. Sowwah Square will also open Rosewood and Four Seasons hotels during fall 2012 and spring 2013. There are also a few jackets that can be worn as dresses and are as stylish as the dresses themselves.
